YES, you can print off the pages you think you will need BUT in many cases you need to jump around to get all the sub-processes needed and print them off as well. So it is doable and if cheaper (and it was) then it is probably OK. One plus is that the photos are usually in colour and are zoomable - not the case in the books.
The BMW manual for the K1200RS was PDF so I printed the complete manual.
We had a fast printer at work.
The K1300S and R1200RS was not PDF so I only printed the sections I thought I would use.
