No, not as strong. I would say it tastes like a blend of chives and garlic. The pickled ones turned out great!

I'm surprised you didn't have it in Pittsburgh.  My family farm is on the eastern edge of the Allegheny Plateau and wild garlic grew on the edges of the fields.

If you post you're substituting young dandelion for endive, then I'll know you're heading for a life off the grid....

LOL!! If I start posting about dandelions (other than killing them) then send in the recovery team!

We may have had it, but I never noticed it. My maternal grandparents had about ten acres with an amazing garden but I was too young (or too busy) to really be involved in it, other than walking through the garden to pick fresh green onions with my PapPap for dinner. I wish I would have paid more attention, they moved to SE OH to be with the little grandkids and then he had a heart attack.

My mom and I bond over gardening. I like to think it's a way to stay close to him.

Knowing what you regret not doing is called wisdom.

In any case, my maternal grandmother (born in 1901) raised her family on a small marginal farm.  She would substitute young dandelion (the leaves) for endive when doing hot bacon dressing and greens.  There was a family joke about not picking the dandelion near the dog's favorite spot.
I knocked, but the door was open.......
