I continue to be amazed at beauty of the small towns.

Now we head towards Tacopeto. Most of the road still sucks. Huge potholes. We pass what looks like a huge hotel right before town. It's only 2 or 3 in the afternoon, but we're beat up and decide to stop. We turn around and enter the property. Hmm, maybe not as nice as it appeared from the road.

We decide to try it anyway. Before we left Texas, Steve decided that since he was leading, routing, etc that I was to be the designated talker. Ok, sounds fair. Unless you know me, I'm typically the quietest person in the room. But, I was in sales and have been making a fool of myself to strangers most of my life, so be it.

So I walk into a  deserted courtyard yelling "ola!"
A lady appears and we quickly discover we can't communicate with words. Pantomime works well enough with my very limited Spanish.
I lay my head down on my hands and say uno noches (one night, I hope)
"Si", immediately followed by "no TV".
No TV doesn't concern me, we haven't watched any yet. I am worried about AC.
"fria?" followed by waving air at my face.
"Si"
"shower?" with an attempt to show water falling on me. And scrubbing.
"Si"
Now the important part, "dinero?"
"seiscientos" followed by her writing 600 in the air. 600 pesos. Something near $35.

I'm still not sure. I have to see this place before I fork over any money. Really not sure how exactly I communicated this, but we meet her around back and up a hill to see the room. It has an AC, and a shower, and two beds. Actually looks pretty clean. The window doesn't close all the way and the gap is stuffed with toilet paper/tissue. I hand her 600 pesos, do zero paperwork, and we have a room. Actually it's fine. I mean, while we noticed the gap we totally missed the missing pane of glass. No worries, we fill it with an extra blanket.
The rock work is pretty cool.

Bonus? We're the only guests.

We get a decent nights sleep and depart early the next morning.

Unbelievably, the road gets worse. So glad we didn't attempt this yesterday.
The views are still outstanding!

Onward to Chihuahua and our last night in Mexico. We've ridden this part, just in the opposite direction.

The view from our 7th floor apartment Airbnb in Chihuahua.

What a BRILLIANT adventure and report. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. You do have a good gift for humorous narrative to go along with the great photos. Thanks again. I am definitely going one of these days, and will contact you for tips. One difference would be I'd want to incorporate more photography into it ... the riding would be a nice part of the adventure, but the photography (and maybe drone footage) would be my focus. I loved the shots of the churches also ... that too would be an interest.

Thanks, high praise coming from you. I'm happy to answer any questions.

I bought a DJI Action 4 for this trip. Haven't really felt like doing anything with it yet.

Not sure about drones, I remember reading somewhere that they are highly regulated.

The churches ranged from fairly simple to extremely ornate. All we're gorgeous.

Drones are a bit of a PITA to actually use, and not because of the actually use of the things (although if you are a video gamer - which I am not - you have the joystick-thumb dexterity halfway there) but because of the regulations on where to fly and how to fly. Privacy concerns have also led to their restrictions in certain jurisdictions / countries, so there is that.

Then lately this Administration has had issues with DJI (the largest drone manufacturer) such that new models are essentially blocked from selling them in the US at the moment. Older models are still available, but at one point there was a potential ban of all DJI products (and threatening all Chinese tech products) in this market.

Bottom line - where you were riding there would have not likely been any issue since it is not close to anything that was restricted, so for hobbyist flying should be fine. And that is all I am interested in doing ... aerial photography.
