Does anyone know if there is a shorter kickstand that will work on the RS? It just seems like it has the RS standing too vertical. Then if you add a Wunderlich foot farkle it is even worse.

There is no shorter kickstand for the RS, and please DO NOT install the Wunderlich footprint enlarger since your motorcycle will be a LOT easier to tip over ... don't ask me how I know. There have been many discussions on the solution to this problem, and one solution that was suggested was to grind the stop that it rests against when deployed to change the angle of the kickstand and thereby increase the lean. However, that is a very small change in angle, I think. One other solution I heard someone do is to cut a piece out of the kickstand, but then the angle of the "foot" at the bottom would be wrong unless the butt joint putting the pieces back together is angled to suit.

The solution is to leave the ignition on (use the kill switch to kill the engine) then get off the bike and let the suspension extend, or even pull up on the right handlebar to extend the suspension, then turn off the ignition. I think you'll find the kickstand is short enough.

Leave it in gear and switch off and the ignition and it does not come up.

The ESA related posts help but I did put a larger foot on the kickstand which definitely makes the problem worse. I found that by filling/grinding both side of the stops gives me the extra lean angle I needed. It is not hard but does take a few minutes. it is far easier than cutting/welding the kick stand.

My Wunderlich foot enlarger (very nicely made), which cased a tip over onto the right side in my driveway while washing the bike (), has since been removed (hardly used) and lies on by workbench to this day.

I left the Wunderlich enlarger on....just filled the stops back further till I got the lean angle I wanted. I do keep the heavy stuff in the left bag for a bit of margin.

That long sidestand can be a problem at times.
You have to be careful when parking at spots like this.

I like the idea of filing the sidestand stop. A little goes a long way at the stand's fulcrum...

I thought I'd revive this thread. I've thought the side stand was too long ever since I got my 1250 (it probably didn't help that I pulled the fork tubes up 1/2"). I'm constantly worrying about whether the bike is going to fall over when parked anywhere but my garage. So when I saw that A&S listed the Chinese market stand (it's on the 1200RS fiche) I thought I'd give it a shot. I knew it would be special order, but it has to be ordered out of Germany, so it took 3 weeks to get. I used a straight edge with a digital protractor referencing the rear wheel for before and after lean angles on the side stand. With the US stand it was 7 degrees, and with the Chinese market stand it was 10 degrees, so 3 extra degrees of lean. Also like GG in a previous post in this thread I was concerned about the angle of the foot to ground, which was good.
Please excuse the picture quality from my ancient cell phone cam.

I forgot to add the PN for the Chinese market stand 46 53 8 564 609 $207.59 from A&S.
Thanks for the post Chris.
I knew about the stand for the Chinese market but in the past US dealers were not able to order it. Good to hear it's available now. I went to the MAX BMW parts fiche and see they now list the Chinese stand so any dealer should be able to get it now. The $207.59 price is the same as the standard sidestand.

While I have moved away from Max BMW for my parts (A&S Cycles are more responsive), this discount is attractive. Darrell, is there a coupon code or anything in order to receive it?

BTW, what tail tidy did you get and is the license plate light useful / functional? I have had an Evotech tail tidy in mind for some time now. It reuses stock parts.

We may trade in 2022 so I'll probably wait and buy the stands then for the 1250. I could put the stands on now and swap when we trade.

GG, I made the tail tidy. The license plate light is actually a full row of LEDs on the LED license plate surround I am using and works pretty well.

Just wondering where you purchased the LED license plate lights. The factory tail light is very small and the more light the better.
