Did you guys see on the RS forum gc141x from Illinois lowsided after having new tires mounted?

Yes I saw that and there is much speculation as to what caused him to go down, but since he said that he was going very slowly and the road was slightly greasy then he obviously was somehow going too fast for the traction he had. I have never used the Metzeler Z8s and while others like them I have also heard enough to make me give them a pass.
I have never had slippery issues due to newness with any of the Michelin or Dunlop tires I have used so far. I have had the tire step out slightly a couple of times after applying tire shine to the sidewalls ... don't ask me how.

Wayne could you edit the posts I requested on the RS forum?
I really wish holger would rethink his edit policy on that forum.

In case there is any confusion, it wasn't me (Michael) that low-sided. Darrell already sent me an email sympathizing with my plight, so I had to set him straight. I don't know who gc141x is, but it's not me. I'm holed up here with my favorite cell-mate Liz, and my bike is tucked into the garage until we get the all-clear. FYI, my username is mspratz on the other forum too.

I looked that up after I posted and that's when I figured I got the user names mixed up.
I got it in my head you were in the Champaign area and that made me think you were gc141x.

Hi all- I just stumbled on this thread. I'm gc141x- it's a handle I was given years ago by my then employer and I've re-used it occasionally. My real name is George Chacko and I live in Champaign, IL. I think the reason I low-sided then was because of overinflated new tires, a wet road with maybe some oil on it too. A slight lean into the turn (less than 30 mph) and I was down. I've cured my PTSD by trading in the R1200RS for an R1250RS and haven't been down since for which I am grateful.

Hey GC: Sorry about your incident. Several of my riding pals have had the same experience: brand new tires, less than optimal road surface, and a teensy bit too much throttle. It's amazing how little traction you have with new tires on slippery pavement.
My 2022 RS came with Metzeler tires, they must have been the Z8s. First set of replacement tires were Metzeler M7RRs. Most recent set is M9RRs. I get them changed by my friend Beecher up in Mount Vernon. I ride home to my secret HQ in the Snoqulamie Valley via Hwy 9, Jordan Road, Granite Falls, Monroe. All small roads, about 50 miles or so. The tires are pretty well scrubbed in by the time I get home. I really like the M9RRs.
Glad that you are back in the saddle. Keep the shiny side up and the greasy side down.

Thanks Paughco. I switched to Dunlop Roadmasters, I think they're better but who knows. The important lesson learned was to check tire pressures more compulsively and raise the alert level around new tires, especially when the roads could be slippery.
