Pirates Lair Stealth Backrest
#1
Installed a Pirates Lair Stealth backrest on the RS, this weekend. Been in touch with Jerry, for a while, as he's been trying to bring this to market for quite some time. As promised, he contacted me with news that they were finally available. My wife is only comfortable on the bike if she has some back support, which is the main reason I bought the BMW Softbag 3. While serving the purpose, it somewhat crowds the seating area due to the upright and flat padded front. The Stealth backrest pad is curved with a slight angle, which provides more room and better support. No functionality is lost with this. When not running the backrest, the softbag installs in the same way as before, engaging the pocket in it's base and using the same straps. With the backrest in place you can still mount the bag, but it sits on the rack, without engaging the pocket.
Definitely upped the comfort level for my wife, which makes it a win for both of us Big Grin

Thanks for the pictures. It's good that Jerry finally has this available for sale.
It appears the production version no longer has the large thumbwheel, or do you not have it in place for your pictures.

You might want to add your pictures to Jerry's thread on the RS site.

It appears in would only take a few minutes to put the OEM cover plate back on if someone wants to mount a BMW top box, is that correct?

Thanks Lee. I've just finished sending up a few pics on the other forum. The backrest comes with both the large thumb wheel and the smaller fastener I have fitted. I used the smaller fastener while test fitting the soft case, as the thumb wheel wouldn't allow space for it. It would take all of 10 minutes to revert back to the stock set up to use the top hard case. A pleasure doing business with Jerry!

When we mount the Soft Case we only use the front two straps and the pocket.
If you do not want to use four straps you might be able to have a sewer add to the pocket so it reaches the rack when the backrest is in place.
