Keeping matte paint looking great
#1
Especially for owners of the exquisite and faster Granite Grey RSs. Big Grin

Up until now I just washed the bike and only occasionally sprayed liquid wax on the front facing surfaces. Was in Walmart recently and saw this product for under $6 and decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised. Works great on my matte helmets as well.

I'm guessing any quick detailer or spray on wax will work on Matte.
I use a quick detailer on my matte pannier lids, gloss paint and unpainted black plastic.

I do not use a cleaner wax or paste wax on the Matte lids or Matte center tank cover.

I agree. The last thing you want is to make the matte painted finish shiny.

I guessed that a spray wax would be safe on matte paint so I thought I better google that to be sure.

Found this on the Mequiar site.

Quote:Waxes

Traditional liquid or paste waxes should not be used as they may also change the appearance of the matte finish. They could create blotchy and uneven appearance.
Spray waxes, like Ultimate Quik Wax (G175), Gold Class Premium Quik Wax (G77) and Synthetic Express Spray Wax (D156) are safe to use and work great to add protection without changing appearance of the matte finish. Make sure and use premium, clean microfiber towels to ensure a scratch and swirl free finish.

Maintenance

Spray detailers, like Ultimate Quik Detailer (G144), Gold Class Premium Quik Detailer (G76), Final Inspection (M34) and Last Touch (D155) are safe to use and will work great to remove light dust, fingerprints, fresh bird droppings etc. Again, always use premium, clean, dry microfiber towels for best results.

I would not apply it to a dusty surface though. I use a “California duster” which works pretty well.

Debbie has a Navy car so I use a large California Duster on her car before using a quick detailer. Her car would really get thick dust on it at work. Large parking lot in a farming area gets a lot of dust and dirt.
I have a small California Duster I use in the house Smile
On our bikes I'll use Wash Wax All to remove dust and bugs without dusting it first.
I also use Wash Wax All on the front of our cars if we have been out of town at night. It does a good job of resolving bugs.

Seems weird to have butane and propane in a detailer, I wonder if this is a repurposing of an existing product. I use diluted Optimum No-Rinse wash as a detailer...similar idea to Lee's Wash Wax All.

I thought that was strange as well. Just don't put an exposed flame anywhere near. Smile

Plexus has both.
I think butane and propane are common in aerosol cans.

Butane and propane are the propellants that sprays the other magic out of the can.

I thought the butane and the propane had something to do with being a propellant but wasn’t sure.

I use acf-50 on the matte black parts of my Shad panniers. Apply liberally, lightly wipe excess off. I need to apply it maybe 3-4 times a year. Brings the matte finish back to looking new.

It does attract dust, but a quick wipe of a micro fiber [ used exclusively for this purpose and not used for anything else ] works.

I use Blackfire Matte Detail Spray on my matte finished vehicle surfaces with excellent results. It's pricey but as I said it's excellent. Take a look at it here: https://www.blackfirewax.com/blackfire-m...spray.html
