Double-checked a printout of a screenshot the dealer gave me last week on 8/17. In the "Vehicle Inquiry: Design/MSRP" section of this was the status of "In Transit to Vpc". From what I know the VPC (Vehicle Processing Center) is where both BMW bikes and cars are inspected/repaired for damage during shipment and then dispatched to their respective carriers to dealers - and the VPC it'd be at is in NJ. There wouldn't even be a VPC in Germany, at least not for BMW.
If I had misread the last six of the VIN over the phone to the BMW rep to another bike, would that already have the same container assigned? Are sea carriers that short on containers? If I hadn't misread the last six digits... was the BMW rep misreading what they saw on their screen?
Stay tuned. The story/saga/tragedy continues...

My money's on the BMW rep making some sort of error. The dealer's GM should be able to clear it up. He may still not know exactly where the bike is, but he can surely tell you that it's NOT still in Germany.

They confirmed w/BMW that the bike was still on German soil awaiting that container. The dealership said it received an RT yesterday that a customer ordered last September.
I gave up. Cancelled the order. Picked up and paid for whatever else they were holding for me (Connected Ride Cradle, topcase inner bag, etc) and am buying this tomorrow: https://ironhorsemotorcycles.com/Motorcy...e90123beb6
Talked to dealer on phone, got him down tto $18K out the door w/o much effort. Considering this is a barely-ridden '20 w/4K miles, looks immaculate, has the hard cases, SW-Motech cylinder guards (I already bought X-Heads and will be taking these off), Heli bar risers, Akrapovič exhaust and an aftermarket tinted tall windscreen -- I'm already checking flights to Tucson to ride it back over a 4-day weekend next week.

Nicely done! Enjoy your ride home.

Shipping bikes the last couple years has been unpredictable so the fly and ride is a good plan.
The bike looks good.
I'll try to order up some cool weather for your first day

I also like the looks of the X-Head covers better.
I see it also has the current generation SW-Motech tank bag mount.

Very nice and with only 3911 miles is a good buy. Gets you back in the saddle. Hope the deal goes through as planned next week when you go to pick it up. Don't know about the rest of you but I do not prefer this ordering and waiting business ... especially given the supply chain issues these days.

Time off approved, deposit charged, insurance changed, loan approved, and flight booked. I'm shipping the alarm, sport seat, suit/helmet/gloves/boots to them today so they'll have Tue morning. They'll install the alarm and seat, ship the other seat back to me in Milwaukee, and hold my gear so I don't have to fly with them (also so I can have my knife with me for the ride, which I could only fly with if I'm checking luggage, which I'm not). I'm almost as excited about the ride back at this point than the bike.

What day do you start your ride northeast?
Will they reinstall the GPS cradle so you can use the connected ride on the trip home.

I expect to start Thursday morning, right after buying it.
Re GPS, yes, they just sent me a pic of it installed about 20 minutes ago. I checked and the Connected Ride cradle doesn't include a short USB-C to USB-C cable so that was a quick Amazon order yesterday.
I also ordered a Kriega 30L hydration backpack. And a Gerbing battery harness for my jacket liner & gloves (doubt I'll need them but want them along anyway). I can just carry that stuff with me on the plane; they should get here Monday.

We almost always carry our heated jackets on trips. They feel good during a cold rain.

1,972 miles and four days later, I made it home. Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado were breathtakingly beautiful at times but long hilly sweepers while cruising at triple digits in western Iowa I was through were the most fun and what I feel this bike was really made for. Bike is running beautifully and with the aftermarket can, finally sounds good. Rider is worn out but recovering very happily.
PS - Could have done it in three days -- ass was fine w/o seat cover, left knee that I had ortho surgery on last spring was fine, bar risers made upright riding better but tucked riding worse; definitely took more pressure off my forearms and wrists (have tendonitis in left arm so that's a concern). Right knee was killing me and forced me to stop off at every other rest stop to take a walk or a sit. Had already discussed surgery on this knee as well w/surgeon; this trip has told me I need to have that done this winter. Back was fine, so I don't need peg lowering.
Would love larger gas tank... BUT that meant more opportunities to get off the bike and rest the knee. So officer, really, my medical condition requires me to get to an empty tank as quickly as possible. I hope you understand, sir.

Congrats on getting it ALL done, from purchase to road trip! Sounds like a beautiful, fun ride!

Was at dealer earlier today to pickup supplies for an oil change. Saw the bike I ordered in March there; was told it was just put on the floor today. Also was told it was sold two days after they posted it online. Hmm, the dealership is full of unsold GSes, RnineTs and XRs, but an RS sells almost immediately...
