In a separate thread (http://rswasserboxer.com/R1200RSforum/thread-580.html), I shared the process of sourcing RS hard bags, liners, etc., from KFM in Germany. Worked out well, the dealer keyed the cylinders for me (once we had a key), I tweaked the placement of the rubber cleats and took 'em out for a trial run yesterday. No noticeable difference in ride or handling, but I wasn't battling the winds I had to contend with on Sunday.
These are the Asphalt Grey variant. I think the finish works well with the other greys/blacks that are going on with the Imp Blue paint/sticker scheme. One of the things that drew me to the RS is how great it looks with and without the bags, and I still feel that way. However, I can't see myself putting these on and just leaving them there. Don't need the weight, wind drag and additional bug-smashing surface areas. But they look good for those times when I need 'em!

Could not agree more. Fine looking bike and yes the panniers do nicely match the grey bits like the sticker, as they do on my Granite Grey RS where there is more grey to match. On my bike I would not paint the pannier lids but I think that on your bike, if you had them painted the same blue as on the bike the match would be even nicer. And with a good coating of wax the bugs would stick less. Smile

Regarding not using the panniers when you don't have to ... I could not agree more. The racks left in place do not enhance the look of the bike without panniers, but they are easily removed, which is what I do. Cleans up the rear end above the rear wheel.

I'm not personally a fan of the "too matchy" look, and prefer the pick-up I get from the grey lids, but I've seen pics of some blue-painted lids that look great (just not for me).

I don't mind the rear hanger racks, either. But, again, personal preference. No right or wrong answer!

Thanks for your kind words - and, by the way, those SIDI boots are awesome!

You are welcome ... calling it as I see it. My Sidi Arias are still rocking ... doesn't even seem to get dirty either.

Last week, I got the Evotech axle and swingarm sliders installed. No "how to" pics, as it's dead-cat simple. The hardest part was finding the tiny flat-head screwdriver to pry off the OEM plastic cap on the swing arm. A little grease on the O-Rings of the rear axle unit, and done! A little "insurance" mod and cosmetically neutral, I'd say. The untrained eye wouldn't even notice.

Where did you purchase the sliders from? Now that I see them on your bike I like the look and the “just in case” protection. Thanks

Gary, I picked all three of the sliders up at ZevRilla while waiting for the bike to arrive, so it was a couple months back. I double-checked this morning, and it looks like the rear axle slider and swingarm sliders are Out of Stock, but the Front Axle is available. And, as GG notes, there are other brands to shop from for about the same money and with similar aesthetics.

I ended up in the same place: a bit of "preventative farkling" never hurts, and it doesn't look bad at all!

Thanks! I went with the R&G since the others were out of stock

I'm thinking I'm going to want Evotech's stuff, based on the things I know about them. I very much appreciate their all in-house approach to things, very much like Akrapovič -- they get the bikes themselves & 3D scan them, design all the parts in-house, source raw materials, design & make their own resin compounds, CNC mill all the metal components themselves, etc. Also make nice tail tidys and radiator covers.

In an effort to get just a touch more seat height and incremental comfort, I ordered up the "Medium" sized Alaska Leather Butt Pad in Dark Charcoal. Not only great overall, but the front edge fits nicely between the front of the seat and the tank, while the rear edge tucks in nice and tidy between the rider seat and pillion. Just one short ride so far, but I like it.
And then, there's the rear tire hugger, for which I found an Open Box special and couldn't pass up. So far, so good with that as well!

If you have the hugger do you need the MudSling any more?

It is kind of a "belt-and-suspenders" thing, isn't it? There's thread about this here somewhere (as I recall) and I've gotten feedback from others who don't necessarily see them as an either/or thing. I think GG liked the concept, but not the aesthetics of what was being offered.

So, for me, it's a little extra protection on the underside, aft of the suspension, and it may make routine cleaning that much easier.

And, as noted, it was an Open Box special and I took a flyer on the Carbon Fiber, which turned out to be a nice matte finish, and picks up the rest of the C/F that's sprinkled around.

Enough rationalizing, huh? I like it!

I have the Mudsling (only) which works brilliantly at keeping the rear spring and shock clean. I have not found any hugger for the RS that I like, as I find they are all too long and I dislike the jagged trailing edge. Give it a smooth curve to that edge and I might look twice. My S1000R had a nice stubby hugger, as does the Tracer. They both look good to my eyes. Smile

That said both would make for a cleaner rear end to the RS, and I guess having the hugger alone would be more effective than having the Mudsling alone.
