Hello from Maine
#1
Bought my first BMW yesterday Couldn't let this beauty slip through my fingers! A 2020 model with lots of the bells and whistles that I don't even know yet what they are.
I've been looking for a "more touring friendly but still spirited" bike to replace my 2017 Yamaha FZ10 for longer rides that's not as heavy as the FJR, which was the only option in my mind in the Yamaha family. I absolutely love my FZ10 and will keep it as my track bike, even though it's not the best suited for that, but it's best suited for me as I'm recovering from having had 2 knee replacements at the end of last year (I'm selling my R6 if anyone's interested).
I was able to take the R1250RS for a test ride before buying it and immediately felt at home. Very comfortable to move, wiggly in the right way, does NOT let that uppity car that thinks it can get ahead first from a red light get ahead, very grin worthy. And starting the engine was a revelation! The FZ10 sounds great when with the stock muffler when it's going, but MAN the fist growl when this BMW starts... Very exciting. And the entire bike moves when it starts!
There will be a lot for me to unravel and learn about this new to me bike, but I'm excited to become a part of this forum and learn from all of you!
The worst part is that I can't actually ride it yet, there's still too much salt on the roads here in Maine. Already had to wash it once after the test ride... Can't wait for the riding season to officially start!

Welcome to the Forum Community and to RS Ownership. That is a nice machine indeed ... nice colour. Was this pre-owned and if so how many miles on the clock?

You got this for the right reasons wanted something sporty but capable of touring but not as bulky / heavy as the FJR. I got a chuckle when you noted the startup ... that is part of the character of the thing and I believe mine starts with a snort (or is that a fart) and that usually brings smile to my face if I haven't ridden it in a while. This bike has character in spades but you will really love it after you have done a really long day in the saddle.

Anyway, I am sure that you will enjoy this bike for a long time to come and look forward to your posts.

You will enjoy the 2 cylinder torque. If you dig it you will never go back to a 4 .

Welcome to you! That's a sweet ride. I like my 1250 RS better than any other bike I've owned for all around riding. Where in Maine are you? I have a very good long time friend who lives in Camden. He's a dyed in the wool rider who thinks nothing of riding from home to our annual get together in NC.

The previous owner spent a lot of money on accessories.
Color matched panniers
Option 719 wheels, head covers, levers and reservoir covers. (the foot levers might be BMW HP because of the blue bolts)
BMW Auxiliary lights
Rear tire hugger.

... and then got rid of it. I suppose poor health could have led to that but there are others who do exactly the same then get tire of the machine and then sell it. Their money their choice, but they expect to get money back for what they spent ... Big Grin I'd say that MarionK did quite well in this case.

Thanks! I'm from around the Bath area. We, too ride our bikes to NC for epic rides. I'm looking forward to doing it with a bike that gets more than 35 mpg

Thanks! Pre-owned, yes, and it only has 1345 miles

I think the previous owner got any opportunity to get a different bike that they had really wanted, and decided to get rid of this one. I'm definitely happy about their decision!

Cool. Looks like the shipyard is still busy. I worked at its "twin" yard in Saint John New Brunswick many years ago. Several exchanges of personnel and some technology while I was there working on the City Class frigates for the Canadian Navy.

We've ridden through Bath a few times in our earlier years of touring. We like the coastal area of Maine.
I lived near Bath NH a couple years when I was a kid Smile
Last trip out there was 2015. I have the bug to get back out there.
The old General store in Bath NH.
