Just curious if anyone replaced D-ESA fork seals with the ALL BALLS FORK AND DUST SEAL KIT - NO. 56-187. They say that it is compatible with R1200R/RS (and few others) but cannot confirm if it fits both ESA and non-ESA suspension. BMW has different part #s for the two suspensions seal sets.

SKF has an available kit, but costs ~$40(US) per leg.

Yeah, here in Canada the SKF is about 2.5 times the cost of All Balls, which are supposed to be very good.

For a BMW I would not skimp on the SKF. Never heard of All Balls ... SKF is also popular with Triumph owners.

The thing is that I don’t even have leaking fork seals…
I just keep deliberating if I should replace the fork bushings (and seals) rather soon or sometimes later. When on center stand and front forks fully extended, (front wheel off the ground), I can definitely feel some free play on lower tubes, especially the right one. However with some load of front wheel, either just pushing forward and back with front brake applied, I can’t feel/hear anything. As well when riding over bumps I don’t feel/hear any clunks. Bike has 51k kms, fork oil replaced 15k kms ago, no leaks on seals. Any thoughts?

I’d get the seals and keep them until needed. Sounds like the bike is just fine at the moment.

If anyone is interested, I finally got an answer regarding All Balls fork seals. i have seen several reviews of their good quality, two forks kit is in Canada just over C$ 50.
Thank you for contacting us! I do apologize for the delay in response!
To answer your question, the 56-187 kit contains the oil seals 55-156 and dust seals 57-170. The 56-187 should work for your D-ESA suspension.
Please let me know if you have any further questions or need anything else.
Thanks!

This is my thinking as well. Or at my next fork oil replacement in 15k kms.

I was considering the option of upgrading the cartridge when the seals fail.
