Any pictures out there of the rear rack without the top box on it.

The plastic Givi Universal mounting plate (which I have on my RS) needs an existing rack to attach to, and the Mandello does not have a rack hence the scaffolding that needs to be added, as you show above. I had to go this route with my Yamaha - complete rack kit with the monokey plate.

The rack I show above is a OEM Mandello rear rack.
It's a option, just like the RS.

I am aware that what you showed is an OEM Mandello rear rack. My RS came with a rack to which the Givi Universal plate bolted on. I was not aware that the rack that my RS came with was an option. Maybe I got lucky 7 years ago ...

In the US most of the bikes came in with the rack. The 2023 RS and R have been showing up without the rack.
In the US the rack is no longer on the 2023 option list. You have to add the rack after delivery and it costs around $380.
When we ordered our 2022 RSs the racks was a $175 option.

Thanks for clearing that up. It would have been nice if the Mandello was able to add a rack without all that huge scaffolding, but then their attachment for side panniers does not need any rack like the RS ones do, so its a tradeoff.

Will Ewan McGregor go on a “next journey” with the Mandello? Nice little video either way …

We've been riding in NW Arkansas the last 10 days and today we stopped at Oark.

I noticed there were a dozen or so Moto Guzzis and most were the new V100.
It was a tour group put on by Moto Guzzi
https://www.motoguzzi.com/us_EN/experience/arkansas/
Only had 5 or 10 minutes to get a few pictures and talk to one rider. The guy we talked to liked the V100 but liked the engine in his personal R1250RS better.

I also liked this truck. It had a fairly modern Cummings engine.

No, most were primer grey. One red and there was a black/grey one that appeared to be private owned.

Lee, thanks for the pictures.

I like the size of the taillight. The MG saddlebags remind me of BMW bags.........a bit lacking in style.

I hope Guzzi can expand their model range and marketshare. I'd like to own one someday.

So I have sat on, looked at, and finally test rode a Mandello. Very nice, but I will keep my RS.

Daily Rider video from one of my favourite moto journalists, Zack Courts from Revzilla. Only down-side is that it is the base non-S model. Still none at the dealer here in Houston for me to go see / possibly ride.

Some points of note:
  • A little heavy coming off the kickstand and around town, although the chassis is well-balanced
  • Wind protection is "perfect" as in balanced (he is 6'-2")
  • Active winglet effect is very subtle (read can't tell a difference) and is a gimmick
  • Top 3 gear ratios are close to each other; maybe not the best use of the engine's abundant torque for touring
  • Suspension is a bit harsh on the base model; S model may be better
  • Tracer 9 GT is more exciting but they have very different approaches to sport touring

GG, For what it's worth, when I had the Breva bike, it got better gas mileage in 5th gear than it did in 6th. I got 300 miles on a tank once on that bike.

Likely due to the tuning of the bike and how efficiently it uses fuel at various speeds. I have found in many instances, and with the Tiger in particular, I have gotten better fuel mileage going faster and riding slightly more aggressively than when riding more gently / slowly. Weird. I noticed similarly with the Tracer, although not as significantly with that engine. Of course, after a certain point it diminishes as well. Maybe in 6th on the Breva the engine was running less efficiently than in 5th.

The Mandello in the video was new and was being ridden by various people at Revzilla so I guess from an averaging" standpoint, those would be real world figures, and could probably be improved. But I suspect that it would probably get worse mileage than the RS, which in my experience and for its engine size, is very fuel efficient.

On an additional side note about fuel economy ... on the Tiger, prior to my first 2-up road trip with Donna full loaded with luggage, I was getting around 46 mpg commuting (as is typical). Then on the 266-mile ride to the destination I managed to get 48 mpg average, and slightly less coming back 4 days later (so it was not a fluke).
