Looks like it may have some traction problems ...
World Debut of the new re-designed roadsters, including the feedback from the guy who rode it in the above video.
Asymmetric headlight makes way for symmetric LED ... not so sure I like that but it has to be an improvement in lighting output.
Will I upgrade ... probably not, as much as I enjoy mine.

Oh, you need one of those real bad! Get one without the traction problems, though.

I am very tempted, believe me. Every time I ride the S1000R I come off with a grin on my face but it does encourage delinquent behaviour which can cause ticket problems and if not skilled enough, can promote swift crashing.

Stay off the gravel and you'll be ok. I plan to keep my '19 XR, I am not going for the new one either.

Interesting bike but I think earlier used models, 1000R and 1000XR, would be a better performance per $ buy.
I am surprised the new S1000R did not have a higher performing engine.

It could have, I don't really know. It does produce more horsepower (165 vs 160) and like the previous models, it would have been tuned for more torque. It is not like the new engine in the RR has bags more power. Gains have been of similar orders of magnitude, so when detuned 165 is about right. Its the torque that matters for a roadster.

That sounds like the old engine. The older engine has had 165 hp for a few years.
The 2020 S1000RR engine was redesigned and now has Shiftcam. I figured the 2021 S1000R would get a detuned version of this new engine and maybe have the HP raise from 165 to 175.

I did a Google search and found this info.
But don't be fooled; BMW hasn't simply carried over the old engine – the 2021 S1000R has the same detuned derivative of the latest S1000RR motor that appeared in the 2020 S1000XR. That means the engine is shorn of its innovative ShiftCam variable valve timing system and reworked with a focus on torque and drivability
the bare numbers for the new model are remarkably similar to the outgoing one. Not only is the power the same at 165hp, but it’s reached at the same 11,000rpm peak, and the torque figure is also identical to before with 84lbft at 9250rpm.

Thanks Lee. The information I initially saw did not really indicate if the the engine was based on the 2020 S1000RR or the 2019 S100RR.
Interesting that the published HP and Torque numbers are close to the older S1000R engine. I would have expected BMW to further boost the midrange through the shift cam.
As Wayne mentions a roadster is all about torque.

I'm also surprised BMW did not change the mid range power.
I like HP, but torque is is what I use in most conditions.
The good news on the R is a better frame, less weight, and wheels that weigh less.
