Keyless Gas cap not opening

Was on my way to meet friends this morning for a ride and stopped for gas. Gas cap didn't want to open. Tried several times more and zippo 
  
Luckily I had just about enough gas to get home. Of course I didn't have my tool kit with me. I expected to pop off the cap clean it and get on my way again. Did the disassembly, cleaned the interior mechanism and popped everything back together. Still a big ZIPPO. 
Ran my GS911 and got a code 0x80401D "Possible short circuit of the filler cap switch" I cleared the fault and the cap still doesn't open. Anybody
Any suggestions?? Anyone have a similar issue?

...and imagine this electrical issue on a long trip. The new 1300s even have an option for electronically locked luggage. I mean, what could possibly go wrong.

Tools under the seat should have allowed the removal of the locking mechanism at the front of the gas cap ring to keep you on your way.

The dealership will be your most efficient path toward a cure of the electrical issue. 

If you're like me, a few minutes with a Dremel and my cap is no longer electrically secured....

I've posted this a couple of times here and on the other forum.

Gas cap demons....

I'm currently in the Great White North paying over $8/gallon  for premium  (and sometimes regular) gasoline.... Whether or not one wants to maintain the lock to prevent future siphoning is a good question, and one you'll have to ask yourself.

After an entire day going at this issue I found the plugs leading to the gas cap and wiring harness was the problem. I found the white (female) and black (male) plug on the lower left side of the gas tank. The white plugs wiring was coming out the back at an odd 90degree angle. There was no obvious reason why those wires were pancaked against the side of the connector like that so I straightened them out while trying to open the gas cap. Lo and behold the cap opened. I attempted to look for some damage to the wiring but nothing was obvious. At least for now I can refuel with no issues. I hope to have someone re-wire the plug down the line......
