Ride down to San Fran
#1
Both my kids are chasing the mighty dollar in the states. I always said make hay while the sun shines.
You raise them to be independent to find out you only see them once or twice a year.
You may think this is political and if so delete it.
I have done the ride down to San Fran a few times but this time feels different with all the disinformation and Canadian bashing going on south of the boarder.
It feels real enough to take any maple leaf stickers off the bike to help blend in. I know most will not give a hoot but its the few that have me thinking. Personally I
don't want the attention, good or bad.
I never would have thought....

I'd have to think that it's a VERY few that would think that way.

I get it, I believe 99% of Americans are civil enough to "let bygones be bygones" and see a Canadian vehicle on the road with little thought but there's that 1% lurking in the shadows that gives me goose bumps. Being on a bike only escalates that so I'd rather not risk it. Lots of people I know have traveled south of the border with no stories to tell but I personally stay put on Canadian soil.

Yeah - I would expect that maple leafs on the bike would simply result in more invitations to dinner as we try to counter the irrational taunts and jabs from our executive branch....

The irony is that of all states, you’d think CA would be the most inclusive and welcoming.

I’m sorry that has been your experience.

Eck, you are right, the west coast is most probably the most inclusive and welcoming.  I am back from my ride and encountered no problems at all.
With all the BS going on I did not know what to expect.
It was a good ride but wished my son had more time to avoid the i5 slab. In reality the i5 portions were not that bad but did make me realize I need a larger screen than the MRA Vario.
Maybe a RT is in order?

Maxredline: I live in Washington State, and I feel the same trepidation as you, only in reverse. All you guys are doing is just doing your thing; we, at least our federal government, have been the bad guy here. I wonder if I went on a ride up there, say to Nakusp, if I'd encounte bad vibes due to all the fracus.

Probably neither of us have anything to worry about. A few years back my wife and I had a great few days up on Salt Spring Island. I'd like to do that one again.

Was in the Yukon and NWT in August.
The motorcyclists I met were happy to talk about bikes and beer.
The business folks were happy I was there and spending money.

Don't think anyone is currently taking the taunts from DC personally, and don't think they blame anyone other than our president.
(Of course, if he's elected a 3rd time, they might start pointing fingers....)

I think that anyone from here going to Canada would be absolutely fine as long as you don't mention you-know-who or the current situation. Keep the focus on bikes, camaraderie, friendship, etc. and you will be absolutely fine. Canadians have always been firm on sovereignty and while we might not have plastered the Maple Leaf on everything like people tend to do over here with Old Glory, just mention that issue and see how quickly the famed Canadian hospitality can turn sour, especially at this time. That stance is nothing new.
