Navigator micro sd card
#1
I did a search and did not find a result on the Navigator 6 micro SD memory card so I figure I will share what I have found.
Using a mirco sd card for extra memory with the navigator means that it has to be in the Fat32 format.
Its my understanding that a 32gb micro sd card card can be easily formatted to Fat32 but the larger sized 64gb needs to be formatted.

Sd cards have different data speed rates so I bought a "3" or "10" depending on the standard. My window 10 would not format the volume using the usual right click format the dirve to Fat32 as it was not an option. Here is what I used and it worked great to format.

First open Command Prompt as an administrator (you can do this through the Start button). Now you need to enter some commands:

Format SD card to FAT32 in Windows 10 with Diskpart.
"diskpart" then press Enter.
"list volume" then press Enter.
Type "select volume x", where x is the drive letter, then press Enter.
Type "format fs = fat32", press Enter.
Wait for the completion of the formatting of the SD card into FAT32 on your Windows 10 computer.

Edit!!! I tried this method above and it did not work! Garmin Express did not reconize the 64gb micro sd card. I installed a 32gm card which worked.

Good information.
I added a 32GB card to both of our Nav Vs because they were running out of storage for new maps.
I was pleasantly surprised I did not need to jump through any hoops to do a map update after the internal memory filled.
The larger map file automatically went to the SD card.

I bought a 64 GB card for my Nav V but found that the Nav V cannot utilize a card larger than 32 GB. I'm not sure whether the same is true for the Nav VI.

From Garmin
Garmin Support Center
Largest Size microSD Card a BMW Navigator V and VI Will Accept
The largest capacity microSD card for use in the BMW Navigator V and VI is a 64 GB card. The microSD must be formatted to FAT32 and the software on the BMW Navigator V or VI must be up-to-date for the card to be recognized.

It is standard practice for microSD card manufacturers to format 64 GB microSD cards to exFAT. A separate memory card reader must be used to format the card to FAT32. See Using a 64 GB microSD/SD Memory Card and Formatting a microSD/SD Memory Card.

Edit: Installed the formatted 64gb card and Garmin express did not detect it. I will try a 32gb card to see what's up. See first posting, I wanted to get the information at eh beginning of the thread.

Hmmm, now I'll have to check my Nav VI and see what's there. Then ask my neighbors teenage daughter to format a 32 and 64 gb card for "the old guy next door". LoL

I'll try to do a test with my Mac, too, for completeness
