That's a K Bike thing. Our three and four cylinder K bikes were that way.
The pivot point of the center stand on a R Bike must be closer to the center of gravity.

It's even worse on the GTL.
I think RKA has a strap tank bag for the K1600. I'll take a look.

Here you go.

I checked with a friend who had a K1600GT for a short time and he said he used the BMW bag. It's 10 liters.
Which SW-Motech bag do you have?

I have 3 motorcycles, I have 3 SW-Motech - the Engage, the Daypack, and the Micro.  It was nice to move them around, pick a size, etc, and have all of them not touching the tank paint.  Not anymore.  I ordered a BMW tank bag today, the 10 liter size, I plan to put something between the paint and the bag, at least a soft plastic laminate.  Even the Micro interfered with the handlebar at full lock.

I could not remember if you had a Micro and was wondering if it would work.
I had the 10 liter BMW K1300S tank bag on my K1300S and used tool tray liner under the tank bag.
I cut slits for the straps to go through and this prevented the liner from blowing away at gas stops.
This setup kept the top of the tank looking good.

When you get the BMW tank bag place it on the tank ring. It may give you a little gap and still be able to strap it in place.
Worth a try.

I never had any problems with the straps marking the tank. Each morning on trips I would clean the top of the tank to make sure there was no grit that might scratch the paint.
Clear 3M film is also a option for top of the tank.

Ron, this picture shows the tool tray liner mat sticking out at the back of the tank bag.

That is what I would use. And keep an eye on the firm to check its wear. I had this on the S1000R when I had the Wunderlich tank bag and it worked well. Switched to an SW Motech bag afterwards.

Thanks for the info on tank bags and tank protection. Tool tray liner and clear 3M, one or both. And wiping off the tank, I get a lot of dust into my garage, the bikes almost always have a thin layer of dust on them, ugh.

A fast ride will blow off the dust, right Bruce? California Duster (or similar) is your friend.
