DESA Shock going spongy?
#1
Hi all, I wanted to get your thoughts or draw on your experience with the rear DESA shock getting soft / spongy.

I noticed the suspension being very soft (road setup) going over e.g. speed bumps, in the last few months but didn't think much of it. Today, I had a new rear tyre fitted due to puncture (plus the tyre was squaring off) and the local garage (Kawasaki, not BMW) told me that the rear shock is shot or is going. My bike 1200RS is just shy of 60k miles. I do believe the garage, as I do think it's softer than it used to be, plus they also have no financial interest, as they can't do the work.

So, I checked the suspension on my way home and it seems to firm up when going into dynamic mode but it may not be as firm as it used to be. Hard to tell without comparison. Does anyone with higher milage noticed a similar issue? Did you buy a new rear DESA shock (very expensive) or found a specialist who can service and rebuild them?

Would really appreciate your thoughts! Many thanks in advance!

This chap can rebuild it - https://ttechsuspension.com/

A friend recently had his S1000XR suspension refreshed there and was happy with the results
