I hear you but I really don't like backpacks unless absolutely necessary and its cool. I do have a good sleeve for my personal laptop. No so worried for my office laptop.

Yesterday I pulled the trigger on this rear bag.

I look forward to seeing pics of it mounted to your bike. For my tail bag, I made some yellow one-loop straps that received unflattering reviews on that "other" forum.

Yes, although if I somehow make it work for commuting I may remove the Givi top box from the RS in favour of this more svelte tail bag. I never did like the big blob of a top box on the back of the bike when not touring or riding with my wife.

Hehehe .. no unflattering remarks over here. We fully support and respect DIYers. Heck that is what I think boxer owners are like ... even Jack Riepe knows that.

This tail bag costs that much that I will most likely be doing a video review to help justify its existence. Big Grin

I liked this SW-Motech bag, but couldn't figure out how to securely attach it
at the back end.

I have tried to copy Darrell by putting the tools kit in a tail bag so I can drop the side cases when not carrying all the travel clothing stuff. So I got this Nelson Ring tail bag. Works great! But I didn't think about how it would fit inside the side case when getting into the traveling mode. The bag is just too big when I stuff it in the side case. Doesn't leave much room for other stuff. Maybe I'll try again with a smaller bag, but the collection keeps getting bigger and storage at the house is at a premium:

I looked at that one too. Liked the design which was similar to the one I purchased.

On trips most of my tools are in a bag on the rear seat.
On trips if we are doing day rides I leave the small BMW rack bag at the motel but leave the panniers on so we have a place to put our jacket when away from the bikes. The panniers also give us a place to carry a jacket liner or electric liner on the day rides.
I always take my tank bag on the day rides and it has a few basic tools, tire repair kit and air pump.

I used one of those several years at home for day rides, then I bought a used BMW 28 liter top box.
At home I have to remove the panniers to park the bike so I rarely remount the bags for a ride unless I need to carry more than will fit in the top box.

The bag arrived a couple nights ago and is waiting for a review video including fitting on the bike. Maybe this weekend. It is a nice bag too.

I also ordered some Nikwax DWR to apply to the exterior and to have for my Klim outfit whenever needed couple of years down the road.

For Gore-Tex, Nikwax TX.Direct Wash-In or Spray-On is a good product.
It's important to wash Gore-Tex from time to time to keep the breathability.

Yes, I got the Nikwax TX.Direct Spray on for now. Will likely get the Wash-In when times comes to wash the suit.

Looks great, but how many times have you kicked it when mounting the bike?

Once ... in the one time I mounted the bike. Big Grin Got to do what I do when I tour with the RS and have my drybag on the back seat ... grab the cuff of my right pant leg and lift it over the seat. Big Grin

At least with the RS and the topbox I can throw my leg over the passenger seat no problem.

In the middle of last week, Wednesday or Thursday, I was futzing in the garage and the bike was parked aft of the car's rear bumper and athwartship to the car. Walking thru the gap, I can access my mechanical tools and auto/cycle parts in the cabinets. Instead of walking around the bike to exit the garage, I decided to mount the bike from the ride side (swing left leg over) and unmount on the left side. I most always, mount and unmount on the left side of the bike.

Well, something felt strange in this bit of ballet, but I went on my way. I think I even went for a ride. Anyhow, it took me 4hrs to get out of bed on Friday morning. Tear-jerking pain at the top of my left hip. My doctor's office gave me the option of the ER or an appointment on Monday morning. My wife had a strong preference for me not to go to the ER (COVID concerns). Ice packs, heating pads, gentle leg movements, Ibuprofen, spouse massages....finally allowed me to move. But, very gently. Saturday morning was a bit better, I was able to get out of bed in a bit under 3-hrs, but the piercing "top of the hip" pain had migrated to include an intense burning sensation on the side and front of my thigh. Again, ice packs, heating pads, gentle motion.........finally, I could make it to the toilet and spend a day as a slow-mo elderly person. Sunday morning was a 1.5hr ordeal to leave the bed but the pain was now a burning sensation on the side and front of my thigh with tingles radiating thru my groin area. Now some groin tingles are good, others indicate you should find a bush. These were the bush variety. My doctor's appt was for 8A Monday morning which required a 5A wake-up to be safe. The Nurse Practitioner did the assessment and sent me to the ER for an MRI, fearing to prescribe any PT or exercises if I had herniated any discs or other back injuries. Somewhere around 3:30P, the ER doc reported the MRI was fine (actually quite good considering my age) and handed me a prescription for muscle relaxers which give me a dull headache but eliminated the morning pain and the groin tingles.

So, yes, motorcycles are dangerous.
I knocked, but the door was open.......
