Probably not ... it probably has been relegated to the realm of the obscure.
I am into photography (or at least used to me) and one of the things that you find with the current consumer grade cameras is a reduction in the number of direct function buttons and controls, for the simpler and cheaper menu-driven BS scheme where you are wasting time digging through menus just so you can make a simple change that used to be done with the press of a button or the twist of a knob. Needless to say, most of the people who use such cameras are no menu-experts (let along photography experts) whereas the pro-level cameras still have all the buttons and knobs to useful quick access. It all comes down to money since the menu-driven system is cheaper.
Motorcycle design is no different. The trick is to get the right balance of useful direct access buttons and keep the menu-only changes for least used functions.
I like that on our pre-TFT RSs, you just need to go to the function that needs to be reset and long press the button on the left grip and it resets. Done.

If your main exposure to menu systems is cameras, I can understand the wariness. BMW did an good job here, though. Resetting the trip computers is the same for both trip computers and the screen points you in the right direction if your forget. From the trip computer screens hit down menu once and there you are. Learning the process is no harder than figuring out that you need to hold a button longer. It is honestly not any harder than what you are used to and takes just as long (short?) to learn.
For the OP, it isubtle, but note that the two trip computers serve slightly different purposes. Trip 1 can have individual values reset or you can reset all at once. Trip 2 values have to be reset all at once, but you have the option of having it reset automatically. Also, one trick that is not obvious is that the main display can be set to display none, one, or a series of information lines (such as fuel level, tire pressures, or any piece of information from either of the trip computers) in a space at the center top. You can only see one piece of information at a time, but you easily cycle through your choices with a push of the menu button.
Importantly, there is never any reason to go into any TFT menu while riding. Ride modes and grip heat are on the right side switch. The system is very user friendly and intuitive, especially once you realize that the screen will always tell you how to get to the next menus using a blue arrow. The main riding display is never more then three pushes of the menu button away.

Are you saying Trip 1 and 2 display more than the trip miles?
When you select Trip 1 does it show miles, fuel consumption and speeds all at once?
That would be nice.
On my 2016 I reset trip 1 at each gas stop.
Trip two I reset miles at end of a trip.
Trip Automatic resets miles automatically each day.
Does the TFT just have Trip 1 and Trip 2?

I totally agree. I think that the new TFT display on the BMWs is the best I have seen to date from any manufacturer.

Yes, two trip computers. That level of menu also has a bike status graphic and another graphic that tells you exactly how much pressure should be added to each tire.
Here is a pic of a trip computer screen. The blue "arrow" at the bottom shows there is a menu "below" this screen that is accessed by pushing the down menu button. That screen has the reset function.

Well, I am learning.
The "Trip Computer" has Trip 2 plus the other things you see above. The "On Board Computer" has Trip 1 and it looks similar to the picture above. These names in parenthesis are important to remember.
The Trip Computer is reset manually (no option for automatic). I don't know yet if I can reset one value at a time or must reset all values at once. It's not in the manual but it's easy to see on the TFT screen but I am not looking at the TFT now.
The On Board Computer can be reset automatically and acts like the daily trip on the Nav V (I think), it will reset in the morning (actually on hours past since the bike ran) but resets all values in the On Board Computer page, of which Trip 1 is one of the values. So if set to "auto" you can't use this for gas. If you set it to reset manually, then you can reset all values or one value at a time and then you can reset Trip 1 only every time you gas up. The Trip Computer that contains Trip 2 can be manually reset at gas stops, I think, if this page allows a single item to be reset.

The salesman mentioned some of the other stuff like "Break" and "total time" and other stuff is useful for long trips - reminders to stop and take a break and other info I am leaving for later. As of right now, my butt and my bladder don't need no stinking TFT reading to tell me when to stop.
I think that maybe by the end of this week, I'll know how to do the things I want to do on the TFT. I'll go for the 600 mile service later this week and I can get the salesman to run me through the TFT again and I can fill in the gaps on stuff I don't know.
Triangle, thanks for the pictures above, very helpful. I was thinking of doing that, and I'll probably do that in a few days to further explain what I know so far.

Most of it looks like a nice setup.
If it let you move things around on the Sport Screen I would move the digital speedometer to the center of the tach where the max lean angle info is.

I hear you. Same here. My attitude as long as they are not charging me extra for these "frou-frou" features then let them be there. I will ignore them just like I ignore various other things on the bike.

I initially thought sport screen was cool, now I never bother. Even at a track day, I mostly just used the main display. Tach info is not needed on this bike and I'm not looking at the TFT when leaned over. It only takes a second to get to the sport screen, but I still never do it.

That's how it works on my 1250 RS. But the 1200 has three trip meters, Trip 1, Trip 2, and Auto Trip on the Nav. The 1250 TFT has only two trip meters: Trip 1 is reset manually, Trip 2 can be auto reset or manual reset. The Auto is as described by Vroom and that is like the Auto Trip on the old RS.
So right now I have Trip 2 on Auto and it starts at zero at the beginning of the day. And Trip 2 is manual and I reset it when I gas up. I think BMW is trying to wean us old farts from reseting a trip meter when we gas up, they want us to depend on "miles to empty".
Trip 2 is part of a screen with many other readings (mpg, mph, hours, etc, etc) and the whole screen is reset, no individual items can be reset by itself. Trip 1 is also part of a screen with equal other readings (mpg, mph, hours, etc) and I have the option to reset the whole screen or individual items. These duplicate readings are like the R1200, mpg1 and mpg2, etc. Except that the TFT does not have current mpg, only average 1 & 2.
I am starting to get this, not bad for one week of ownership. Next on my learning curve is the BMW iPhone app.
