WTB factory BMW DVD repair manual R1250RS
#1
Need to buy a BMW DVD factory repair manual for my 2020 R1250RS. These are no longer available from BMW. I do a lot of my own maintenance and one of these factory DVD repair manuals is invaluable to me. Please let me know if you have one to sell. Thank you in advance.

Hopefully this is temporary supply problem.

Actually, BMW have said the DVD repair manuals are discontinued. They'll not be making them anymore.

See this post where I gave some links. May be worth a call trying to buy it online and see what happens. The links are presently online and active.

Well, after speaking with several dealerships from California to New England I can report reliably that they have have without exception informed me that BMW are no longer selling CD/DVD repair manuals for ANY BMW bike models even though some manuals currently remain in warehouses. No one had any information on whether BMW were going to make any repair manuals available in any format. Is anyone else bothered by this? BMW have essentially shut down our ability to do our own maintenance using accurate repair information.

Thanks for sharing this info. It is sad that they are going to these lengths to stop people from fully enjoying their motorcycles by working on them in addition to riding them. I guess we have to rely solely on Haynes manuals, which for my capability and daring, suits me just fine. Funny thing is, I have a DVD sitting 3 feet from me which I have never used in the 6 years I have owned this bike. So how does their sales stoppage affect me? Not in the least. They will still get the bike when the repair or maintenance is more than I am able / willing to handle, and besides that I do my own work.

Yes I like to support the local dealership as much as may be practicable, but at the same time I don't have a money tree and I reserve the right to fund my hobby / lifestyle as cost effectively as I can.

Speaking of dealerships ... fiend of mine brought his RT in to one of the dealerships I use (and prefer to bring for BMW work) for a fuel pump recall. He says they replaced the fuel pump now they can't keep the bike running! Heck I am sure he could ahve managed to hit that same note of success without the DVD. Another one missed a ride this evening because his K1600B was stuck in the shop. Said that the other dealership I go to (who took almost 10 hours to change the fork oil on my RS saying it was complicated; never going back there again for work other than perhaps tire change) managed to break their transmission tool on his bike (don't know the details). This is what BMW Motorrad wants us to deal with by withholding DVDs? Are we better off? Neither of these guys are happy presently.

I'm just the opposite, I never use the Haynes manual.
I looked through it a few times and thought it was poorly organized. The pictures were not in the correct place to match a procedure.
The DVD works ok for me. I print the sections I think I need and use those in the garage.
I like that you can update the DVD if BMW makes any changes.

When we get the new 1250s I can probably use the 1200 DVD for some of the work.
For body panels and fastener I can use a parts fiche.

If the 1250 DVD never goes on sale again I guess I'll have to deal with a Haynes manual.

I wonder how Haynes will get there procedures and torque values with any info from BMW.

If I spot a used R1250RS/R DVD for sale I'm going to buy it.

Lee. I have been scouring the cosmos for one with no luck. Would you be able to print the pages showing removal of the rear body work? I need to gain access to the rear lighting wiring so I can install my Hyperlites. The wiring exposed under the seat doesn't have enough wires to wire everything up as there are only 3 wires running under there.

I don't think the two painted parts next to the rear seat have to come off. If they do you should be to see the fasteners when you remove the seat.

If you need to remove the rear fender there's five fasteners. You access two of them from the top under the rear seat.

Here's the part I'm talking about and you can see the five holes for the fasteners.

I called Engles in Kansas City today and asked if it was possible to order a R1250RS/R repair manual DVD.
They said the computer showed inventory was available at the warehouse and ordered one for me.
I'll let you know if I get a email next week saying the order was canceled.

I used to hate the Haynes manuals for that very same reason. UNtil I figured out their photo labelling process. Yes the photos may not always be right next to the paragraph that refers to them ut that is the nature of the beast when trying to optimize print layout and minimize page count. But the thing to realise is that the photo numbers correspond to the section.paragraph and has nothing to do with chapter number. So if in Chapter 4 Section 3 paragraph 5, the narrative will simply say "see illustration" and you have to look for illustration 3.5 somewhere on the page. Since realizing that I have never had any issues ... other than the greyscale photos are not always as clear as I'd like them to be. Other than that I find them quite adequate.

The factory repair manual still seems to be available from Max BMW: https://shop.maxbmw.com/fiche/DiagramsMa...d=09082020

Note on their order completion page they state "Our website does NOT reflect what we have in stock. Some parts may be special ordered from BMWNA or sourced from BMWAG (Germany)." I'm waiting to see what Lee has to say about his experience with Engles and will order from them immediately if available.

I just got off the phone with Gateway BMW, Saint Louis. They tell me they show inventory of the R1250RS manuals in the warehouse, but they are "blocked" from ordering them. They do not know if or when they will be released. I'm kicking myself right now for not ordering one when I got the bike!Angry Hopefully Lee will have some luck with Engles. I checked the Haynes website and they do not show anything for the 1250RS only the 1200RS (already have the 1200 manual).

The lady I talked to has only been in the parts department a year or two.
It's possible she missed the blocked message.

I ordered a 1200RS DVD from some seller in Italy. It's a copy and wasn't expensive so I took a chance. If it's usable I'll report and provide a link. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I thought the issue was only with the 1250 DVDs. Or is it all of them? If so, then yes please, keep us updated!
