I agree that this is the way that BMW Motorrad will be going in the future and have effectively killed off the BMW Navigator. If people insist on getting a dedicated Garmin unit and can forego the integration with the jog wheel then there is the more cost effective $500 Garmin Zumo XT. But they probably recognize that many people mainly want jog wheel integration and telemetrics so this cradle, which can work with a wide range of phones, solves the issue and removes Garmin from the picture.

I just would like to definitively see how owners with the GPS Preparation that we have on our bikes would be able to say swap out the Navigator Cradle and swap in this new cradle. The articles are not clear on whether this can be done on non-TFT bikes with GPS Preparation.

As for the vibration - I am not surprised that Apple is taking that approach to head off any claims by people that the motorcycle broke their phones. They are placing the onus on the phone mount manufacturer to make that guarantee, and given the model coverage to include non-Apple phones, I would bet that BMW Motorrad would also not make such a guarantee. Even Quadlock does not make that guarantee, although its vibration dampener appears to do the job perfectly.

Anything with "BMW" on it needs that preparation for the shock. Thanks for starting this thread ... I am sure there will be many updates as the cradle is released.

Sounds like it works on non TFT bikes.

So looking across multiple news sources on this one, looks like BMW took a straight-on shot at both Wonderlink and the Acacia powered cradles. Here's what I've seen:

1. Pulls both power and CANBUS messages from the GPS prep (same as Wonderlink and Motorrad Navigator)
2. Sends Wonder Wheel signals to the phone via Bluetooth (same as Wonderlink)
3. Supports Qi charging through the cradle (no cable), same as the Hondo Garage and some Acacia mounts
4. Likely uses some modicum of middelware between the mount and the phone, baked in the app I'm betting
5. One press release shows it at $279

It is not clear if the phone will still need to establish a second connection to the TFT. For RS owners with TFT, I don't see much of a value add over the cheap Amazon phone holders that fit into the GPS mount. The Sport screen already displays lean angle, breaking, and acceleration. All of that data is automatically downloaded to the app.

Yes, with the Connected app you need to download maps to your phone.
With a TFT you do not see a map.
One little snag is if your phone does not except a memory card you may need to only download the states you think you'll pass through on a trip.
I think the new phone cradle will be great if you can see Google Maps on your phone.

I have CoPilot GPS on my iPhone XR phone which has 256 GB memory built in and I believe all of NA maps for CoPilot is in 2 GB. I have no issues with memory. Maybe the downloaded Connected maps may be similarly sized ...?

The map size was mentioned on the RS site but I don't remember.
The Nav V has 8 GB of storage and it's not enough to hold the North America maps.

It's probably because I'm such a newb, but what's unclear to me so far (at least from those vids) is: 1) what bracket is holding the cradle in place up above the TFT screen? (and where does that come from?); and 2) how is all the "GPS prep" wiring/connectors moved from where it starts out from the factory (by the triple clamp area) to the area above the TFT screen?
Emphasis on "so far," as I'm sure there's a lot more that I'm not considering.

To answer your questions:

1) The bike shown in the pictures is not an RS. I believe it's a GS so the cradle above the TFT screen is the standard position.

2) The cradle can simply be moved and the cable relocated. The moto-mate mount does this and runs the cable behind the TFT - Moto-Mate
