The blinking red dot is the bike telling you that the key is not in range.  So you learned something, but a dealer agreed to pick up your bike without mentioning this to you?

No--sorry. I was texting with him--told him the symptoms, and he said, "That usually signifies your fob battery is  dead or out of range." I went out with my fob and, as they say in Languedoc, "Voilá!" And all's right with the world. When I told him what a dunce I was, he said, "Roger that, and no shame here! I am totally with you man, I barely remember what I ate for breakfast yesterday!"
