New phone mount accessory from BMW

The Connected App just updated on my Android phone to version 4.0. There is now a prominent tab to establish a connection to the Connectivity Hub. It is not clear if the phone will still need to establish a second connection to the TFT. For RS owners with TFT, I don't see much of a value add over the cheap Amazon phone holders that fit into the GPS mount. The Sport screen already displays lean angle, breaking, and acceleration. All of that data is automatically downloaded to the app.

With the new mount and phone connected to the bike why does the phone need to use the connected app?
If you want navigation I would think you would use Google Maps.

The phone is using the Connected App to connect to the mount.
