Most expensive repair?
#1
After leaving the dealership today for an intermittent "engine control fault" I discovered first hand what it is to own a German built vehicle. I felt going in my wallet was going to be a lot lighter after the visit but not that much :p The bike was running great except for the irritating fault reminder so I assumed "how bad can it be?"
$1,000 cdn for the Oxygen sensor and Labour including the diagnosis process. So, my question today is what was your most expensive repair?

After the accident, probably my fork oil service. That was about $339. I do all my own maintenance so costs are kept low.

The accident was about $7500 but insurance paid that.

O2 sensor was the problem with your bike, eh? How old is your bike and how many km? Ever consider investing in a GS-911? With that you can at least read what the codes are, and with a Haynes manual you may be able to do a fair number of repairs yourself, depending on your situation.

October 2005, Fredericksburg Texas.
The area around our cabin flooded and the right side foot of Debbie's centerstand broke through a thin spot in the chipseal. It looks like when her K1200RS fell to the right the nose of her bike pushed on the back of the tail bag on my K1200RS. My bike rolled forward and feel. My bike was also on the centerstand.
Total repair was around $9,000. Probably twice that today.
The large side panel and nose fairing for the Blue and White Zebra color were very expensive.
There was also a fairing bracket, windshield, Saddle bag mounts, saddle bag lids, levers and heated grips.
Probably more I can't remember.
Now I don't use the centerstands unless I know it's a good solid surface.
It flooded again the next night but I parked the bikes in a higher spot.
Insurance paid for it with no deductible.

Its a 2020 with only 22,000kms. I scanned my bike with the Motoscan app actually. It was an intermittent fault that gave me 2 codes 3A1C40-3A1112 . It was complicated by the fact it mentioned several different components as possible causes and the faults would reset themselves several times by just starting and restarting the bike. To confuse me even more the bike ran great........

Is the motorcycle fixed? No more error messages? If it's all ok now then I think you didn't do too bad. You got a diagnostic, a new O2 sensor, and labor, for $750 USD.

Wait till you need a new set of tires! I read an article in the Wall Street Journal about a week ago that said $1 in 2020 is worth about 80 cents today.

I replace at least 1 tire per year, so I track tire prices looking for best prices (Dunlop RS4s).  So far, Spring/Summer prices this year are similar to last year.  The interesting thing about last fall was a nice drop in prices.

Sensor was not in stock so they sent me on my way and told me they will call me when it gets in. Of course I had to pay half $$ before I left. Ordered my Road 6's yesterday Smile
