We love bikes and put up with computers. My guess is you access this site on something other than your phone.
My desk top Microsoft windows 10 operating system is coming to an end regarding support.
My computer is not up to snuff to install the new Windows 11.
I am currently doing my research on a new system. I usually get the top range of what I budget for as this computer has lasted me over 10 years.
I want to share a site that can point you in the right direction of systems within a budget.
Logical Increments
It is not the end all be all but is a start.
I have decided for only the 2d time to go with a AMD processer as some of the newer Intel processers have problems.
It is now Nov 2024 and I am going with a Ryzen 7700x cpu with a X870 motherboard chip.

I prefer to use a desktop over a mobile device when home.
My computer is 9 years old and I should replace it in the next year or so, but I hate setting up a computer.
I don't know any grade school kids to help me
I saved your link.

In my experience, grade school kids are pretty good at anything phone and social media related ... not so good with computers and anything productive that they might support.

I know some of your aren't Apple fanboys, but I recently got an Apple Mini at work. The thing is blazing fast and not expensive at all. Using it with a 32" Dell monitor.

What specs do I need to look at for a monitor?
No gaming but I want a sharp image for pictures.

Specs I don't know, but Dell UltraSharps have served me well. I'm guessing your monitor image is more dependent on the graphics card, than the monitor.
I knocked, but the door was open.......

I'll replace my Windows10 Desktop when I start to have problems. Post retirement, my demands on the machine are pretty minimal.

Sharpness depends on the monitor. Of course, if one does not have the appropriate card to support the monitor's resolution then that would be the limiting factor, but since most modern cards are capable enough, is usually the monitor that determines the quality of the image when it comes to clarity. Monitor also has to have higher refresh rates to better handle flicker (and for gaming)
Just before Covid hit I shopped for a couple of LCD monitors for my video and photo-editing, and I got two $100 (nominal) Sceptre monitors which are working just fine to this day. The have higher video resolution than I am prepared to run (don't want the fonts to get too small) and have a 75 Hz refresh. They are more than enough for my level of expertise in photography and videography ...

Update, build and cost in Can.
This build is obviously custom. My plan is to work with an enthusiast budget, use whatever I could on my existing i5 build to keep cost down and being able to upgrade components.
My builds have averaged 8 to 10 years before being obsolete. I have a good Fractal ATX size case so that was the first spec to work with.
Compoents
Asus ROG Stix X970-A Gaming Wifi $559.99 (ATX size, AM5 type for AMD Rysen). My gaming has dwindled done to nothing but wanted a mobo that could have components upgraded.
Corseair Vengeance RBG DDR5 Ram 32GB $144.99.
Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO $66.36, I had to replace the cooler as my old Noctua would not fit
Ausus Dual GeForce RTX 4060 TI EVO $705.59, very decent but older
MSI Mag A850 PCIE 5 power supply $145.59. Didn't expect to replace the PSU but cables did not jive.
Artic MX-4 Thermal paste $12.31
Noctua NF-P14s case fans (3) $65.70. Didn't expect to replace these either but my older cable are 3 pin, newer are 4 pin for speed control
USB adaptor cable $10.00.
Asus USB-BT500 Bluetooth 5 USB adapter $27.98. Didn't expect to replace but older unit does not work with window 11
Window 11 Pro $13.01. New from Microsoft with cost $180 and up. I installed Windows 11 from Microsoft and then used Code form third party
Office pro plus $39.42. Same ^^^
Total $2205.93. I saved myself the labor and got the parts I wanted though my computer engineer kid told be I was slightly overdoing it.
So there you have it. The only thing I manage to keep with the computer case worth about $200.
Getting the unit up and running was not without some difficulty and is always the case. Total hours of dicking around getting the system to boot, installing updates, acquiring codes, and installing programs and apps worked out to be 8 hours min.
This computer Rips!
What I have learnt ; I would buy all the components (or just buy a prebuild) and sell the old rig as one instead of piecing it out. I didn't realize how many simple parts were obsolete.
I would never build a computer for someone else without a long talk about expectations, costs and problems that can occur.

When I'm up for a new build I use pcpartpicker to work out my box. Checks for incompatibilities and shows costs. I know ahead of time where I'm going before I start searching for the best price on parts. All of my boxes rock. Although, I would really like to do a micro build and get the behemoth off my desk(s). When I get a little time I suppose.
