WOW .... that must have been some smack on the rim to cause such serious bending of the rim. Not that surprised about the RS though ... the thing is typically as stable as a train. Safe!
As for riding it for a significant distance with that much bend in the front rim ... makes no sense. They aren't going to replace it under warranty. Best bet would be road hazard warranty if you have it, but you'd probably have better luck if it was a pothole.

Got in the car and cruised back to where it happened to see if I could discover anything. Turns out it was a ( conveniently) road colored chunk of concrete! Found a few more pieces off the side of the road that probably fell off of a truck. Mostly frustrated with myself.
Anyway, I’ll find out tomorrow what insurance will do about the rim. While the last dealer visit is mainly for them to take care of a right side fork seal that is starting to leak.

I had something similar happen to me on my R9T, minus the bent rim part. It turned out to be a piece of concrete that was covered in asphalt and was indistinguishable from the road. I turned around to see what I hit and saw that it had a very sharp edge. Sure enough it sliced the front tire, but not severe enough to lose any air. And there were a few more pieces of that crap on the shoulder of the road that I threw off into the forest. I only had about 3k miles on those Pilot Road 4’s, but changed both tires anyways because I didn’t want to be dealing with different wear.

Curious...
Did the TPMS show any loss of air? I’m kind of amazed that you didn’t lose any air from the looks of that damage around the bead area.

If you took some photos of the debris I'd also contact the NC Dept of Transportation in your region and see if they have any insurance or fund that would help you with this likely $1000 bill. Others may have contacted them already so they are aware of the issue.

I agree, sometimes the state,county, city ect. will pay for a new wheel and tire.
Next I would check on my comprehensive insurance.
Woody's Wheels may be able to fix it, but not sure I would be comfortable with fixing that big of a dent.

I bet you could knock that rim pretty straight and not have to replace it. Use a block of wood against the rim and hammer it straight. The wood will prevent excessive paint damage. Worth a try!

The Progressive motorcycle claims adjuster is swinging by Friday to have a look. And no loss of air occurred as the bead of the tire is still seated on the rim. I didn't have a TPMS warning either, so hopefully it's ok. There is a reputable rim repair business in this area, but I'm inclined towards a new one, insurance or not.

I think that is a smart idea. I would not trust a bent rim with a tubeless tire no matter how good the apparent seal. At the same time I would also try and repair the bent rim and keep it as a spare as opposed to throwing it out.

In your picture it looks like I can see the valve stem cap, but it's on the wrong side. What's I'm seeing is close to the dent.
If insurance is involved I would ask the adjuster about a new TPM in case it was dinged also.
Also ask for a new front tire.

Ah yes, sorry for the delay. Got quite busy around here with home improvement projects and pretending to be a body man - replacing most of the front clip of my son's Honda Accord, after a wonderful encounter with one of the local 200 lb squirrels
So the total estimate for my encounter, which includes new rim and tire, plus labor, comes to $1,649.38. Rim: $1,202.13 / Tire: $177.95 / Labor: $176.14.
Taking the bike to my, not quite, local dealer Saturday.

Hope Progressive covers the whole thing. I have had good experience with them so far (2016 accident in Asheville NC) so there should be a good chance all is covered (minus deductible, of course).

That's the nice thing about comprehensive, it usually has a low or no deductible and it rarely affects your rates when you have a claim.
