How to remove that ethanol from your gas
#1
A few years ago in these parts you could buy non ethanol added 94 ocatane gas at Chevron. We all used it for storage among
other high performance engine uses. It is now mandated to add ethanol to all gas levels.
I feel I have to add this with repect. Most or all people here know high level storage fuels do not contain ethanol. If you are not sure why do some research.

Why not just remove the ethanol from your winter prep gas? Take that out of the storage equation.
I have never been burned before by just adding a gas stabilizer to my motorcycles gas tank and running a heat cycle before storage.
I have always had a warm place for them to hibernate. Even if it was a insulated wood box with a light as the heat source.
I have been burned on other small engine applications, particularly with carburation left out in the cold.

I have lately learnt what seems to me as initally counter intuitive to remove the ethanol.
Add water with your high octane ethanol gas, shake well, the water binds with the ethanol and seperates. From there siphon off the clear gas
to your jerry can.
Now you have ethanol free fuel (with a slightly lowered octane) for all your injected and carburated needs.

If you have a Walmart in your location then look for the Murphy USA fuel station. I can get 91 ethanol free at the ones located near me.

No Murphy Oil in Canada.

Get a rubber stopper with a hole in the center and make a separation "funnel" with a stopcock and some rigid tubing. Since it's a closed ended system you might need to use a two hole stopper and run a long air vent to make it flow smoothly. Is it worth it? Probably not, but I hate siphoning.

Yes draining the waste water would be better for sure. I will add that in the future.  Wink
