Hornig Mirror extensions, and fit
#1
I took the plunge and ordered some of the mirror extensions for my new RS.  After waiting the obligatory 3-4 weeks for them to arrive from Germany, I tried to install them this evening.  I found the slot milled for the base of the mirror was about .010 too narrow, so the mirror stem wouldn’t fit with the spacer installed.

Has any else run into this, or am I the only lucky/disappointed one out there?

#Eck  They are an awesome addition and I couldn't be more pleased. I had exactly the same experience.  I sourced some different washers from McMaster Carr that are only 1mm thick instead of the 1.5mm from the factory. They're only available in quantity so I had to buy a whole bag of them which means I have extras. PM me your name and address and I'll mail you the correct size washers/spacers. You'll need 4.
Here's a close up of the mount with the Hornig extension installed.

In case anyone else is in the same situation:
I should have been more clear. If it's regular first class mail then no cost to you. Gratis. If you'd like priority or express then just the actual postage amount the carrier charges for the expedited service.

In case someone wants to source some from McMaster Carr or elsewhere, here's a picture of the bag label showing the specs

The washers arrived today and fit perfectly (I only needed 1 per mount)! Thanks again. We have a wonderful “community” here in “RSwasserboxer” land.

Confused! lol .....I cannot find mirror extenders for the R1300RS anywhere on the Hornig website.
What am I missing (getting wrong with my search)?
TIA

I doubt there will be mirror extensions for the R1300RS. The “blind spot detection” system requires wiring to power the light that appears on the mirror. I doubt there is sufficient of slack in the wiring to reach a mirror that has been “extended” from its base. Extended wiring will most likely be required, making a “kit” more complicated and expensive.

"Extended wiring will most likely be required, making a “kit” more complicated and expensive"  Further proof that once again technology has made life more difficult!   Rolleyes Rolleyes Exclamation  Just sayin'

Big Grin But isn't that why we like cutting edge features ... ? Usually comes with a bit of engineering to get the technology to the masses. The same technology that the masses can't DIY fix. Wink Double edged sword.

I am just p!ssed that they still don't have backlit switches, which is not technologically difficult ... easier to implement across the board than say cruise control or ABS ... both "newfangled" back in the day.

As for the subject, I do like the blind spot technology and am 100% for implementation of safety features on a motorcycle. No idea if the existing mirrors would be wide enough for me and am not surprised that some will have shoulders too wide for the as-designed mirrors. Shouldn't be too hard to cut and splice some extra wiring if extenders were made available.
