Anybody replace TPMS sensors?
I'm thinking of buying ebay sensors and changing them next tire change.
Rear sensor reads about half the time now.
I've got an email into one of the big vendors on ebay asking which is the correct sensor for these bikes.

I have a rear sensor going out.
It takes a long time to display and yesterday when riding in 40s and 50s temps I get the yellow triangle with a high pressure warning.
In warm weather, no triangle just dashes.
I plan to bit the bullet and buy a OEM sensor.

Ah, one more thing to add to the list of positives for trading in my 2016 on a 2020. Just kidding.
On a more serious note, I bought a 2009 Corvette, bought it new. Sold it in 2019, all four TPMS's lasted that long, never had to replace one. Do they have a battery in them?

Just a couple of months ago I had to replace the first one on my 11 year old truck.
Yes, they have a sealed battery that is a royal PITA to replace, because the sensor is a sealed unit and the battery is not meant to be replaced. Darrel sent me his old one for me to fight with ... haven't started it yet but I plan to ...

Deb's car is a 2008. Had one TPM replaced two years ago and the other three are still good.
I was surprised to see the car TPM looks smaller than a bike TPM.

My 11 year old Ford F-150 still has the original TPM but at 90,300 miles I had the front sensor on my RS replaced under the extended warranty I have on the bike. When I told my mechanic I had the dash lines showing up for the front tire he hocked it up to the computer and told me he could see it failed to something like 68 or 78 times on the computer. Service manager called the warranty company and they replaced the next tire change a week later. Maybe those of you with the 911 devises can see this as well on units. My rear sensor has not failed but it does hope it does by next April when my warranty expires.
I sent my old one to Wayne as he mentioned as was interested if he could get a new battery in it. There are some videos on uTube showing people changing the batteries. They are not cheap from BMW.

Five to six years seems to be average.
Our k1300S bikes were more than five years old and did not need replacements.
No need to check with a 911. When you see it takes a few miles before the tire pressure displays you know the battery is getting weak.

Last month when I reset the service reminder and checked for faults
it did not show one for TPM.
The GPS 911 will not show the TPM battery level and I don't think the shop computer will show the battery level. On your bike the shop computer probably showed the TPM failed to communicate with the bike computer.

Bike had 90,300 miles on it when replaced so probably 88,000 when I first noticed lines once in a while. Nearing the end of 4 riding seasons. The bike turned over 120,000 miles today while riding in Alabama and rear has not shown any issues that I have seen.

I ordered the clone sensors last night, $37 for a pair. I also ordered a $10 wakeup tool recommended on advrider. Both are due April 27-30. I already have a GS-911. Seemed like a reasonable risk/reward scenario. I'll be changing tires for an upcoming trip soon. I'll let everyone know if it works.

I use TS408 tool for all my TPMS. It doesn't indicate exact TPMS voltage. It only tells you if battery voltage is ok.
I keep a spreadsheet of motorcycle TPMS sensors since we have a spare set of wheels for our bikes. Between TS408 and GS911 wheels swaps are a breeze.

Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.
If you have your own tire changer your not out much if it doesn't.
Too bad the ones BMW sells cost so much.
I think the one I bought at the Chevy dealer only cost $60 or $70.

My 2018 Honda CR-V has a low tire pressure warning system, but doesn't have any TPMS sensors. Instead, using the ABS wheel speed sensors it monitors the rotational speed of each wheel and if any one wheel begins to rotate faster (indicating the tire is going flat and therefore the effective circumference is reduced) it warns you. It does mean that whenever you adjust tire pressures you have to tell the TMPS system to recalibrate.

Debbie's 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix had low tire pressure warning without TPM and did not show the actual pressure.
I didn't realize anyone still used a system like that.

Subaru has been using passive TPMS forever.
My '18 & '20 Volvos both had passive TPMS.

My 2006 BMW 330i has a similar passive system, that looks at individual wheel rotation speeds to guage a flat tire.
