Schuberth’s New C5 Helmet

We have the C4. Last year when we tried the C4 Pro the shape was wrong for us and it was very difficult to put on and take off.
I was happy when we tried on the C5 at the MOA National the shape was back to being similar to the C4.
What surprised us is both of us needed one size smaller with the C5.

Two things I didn't like are the intercom is Mesh. We don't ride in groups and we're told Mesh has a shorter battery life compared to our C4 intercom. We were told we would probably need to charge every day on a trip compared to every other or every three days like we do now.
I also did not like the boom mic sticking out in front of my mouth compared to our current stubby mic.
Forgot to ask but I bet we can swap the boom for a stubby.
We will probably go with the C5 as our next helmets.

Talking about shape, the Revzilla website doesn't list a head shape for this helmet. That's unusual for them.

True, but showing a listed head shape as "Intermediate Oval" only get one in the ballpark regarding fit, since there is no standard to that designation, i.e. there are many shape variations to "Intermediate Oval". Revzilla / Spurgeon does say in the video that that there is a lot of padding adjustability that comes with the helmet which would help assure a good fit. The Revzilla video also does state that it is Intermediate Oval. 

Nice helmet but I still prefer the Shoei Neotec 2 which I tried on at the MOA Rally and was pleased with the fit. It also ranked slightly higher in this test.

It certainly does NOT come with extra pads, despite the initial media blurbs. At least it doesn't when ordered from overseas.

The only helmet I have found that fits my long oval head has been the Arai Signet series. Previous Q was slightly better fit for me than the current Signet X. LS2 Strobe was almost a fit, but I get the forehead hotspot after a couple of hours.
As shipped, the C5 is really close to a perfect fit. If I ever find the extra pads I need to tweak the upper liner very slightly and probably go up one size in cheek pads. As shipped it's still the only modular that comes close for me.

Less expensive from overseas, even if you add express shipping. I have nothing bad to say about Champion Helmets. Communication was good, albeit by email and a day behind due to time differences. This was my first experience buying overseas and I'll most certainly do it again.
You do lose DOT certification, if that matters to you.

I'm not sure you're going to find a helmet company that provides optional pads at no cost.  Neither Arai nor Shoei offers the alternate pads at no cost for their helmets in that price range, the Corsair X and X-14, respectively.

Depends what pads you're referring to. I am not referring to cheek pads but to the small adjustment pads that fit in the headiner by the forehead etc. My RF-1200 came with additional pads. That was a $500 helmet bought off the shelf a few years ago at Cycle Gear.

List price for solid colors is $750. I think that's the same price as the Shoei Neotec 2.

I'm wondering if those pads didn't come from Cycle Gear?  There's no mention of them in the packaging list in the RF-1200 or RF-1400 owner's manuals. Still, the Arai USA reps had some similar pieces when they fit my Corsair X.  Similar to Shoei, there's no mention of these "tailoring" pads in the Arai owners manual, but you can find them on the Arai website under "parts".  They're a special order item from the distributor. 

As an aside, but related.  Since I have new clean helmets this year, I've been riding with a helmet liner.  Just the simple Cortech CoolMax product that's been on the market for years.  It alters the fit slightly, but the coverage over the ears keeps my earplugs in place when I pull-on my helmet.  I've come to appreciate that feature.  I tried a different brand (Axial from Revzilla) that promised better cooling, but the seams created pressure point and the fabric had a powerful chemical odor........much like a Harbor Freight store without AC.

My C5 is a 61, my Signet X is an XL(61-62). The C5 is breaking in nicely, I may not need to fiddle with the upper pads. If they ever become available. Could still go up in size on cheek pads.

That about sums it up for me also, when I tried it on at the National in 2022 - didn't fit as good as the Shoei helmets and appeared to be extra cost to make it work. I don't think I should have to pay for foam pads at that price point. The built-in Sena speakers were not an issue for me at the time since I was thinking I'd just stick with Cardo JBL speakers and the Cardo system. I sort of prefer the ratchet straps, or anything other than D-ring straps, actually ...

I just wasn't thrilled about having to pay for features I didn't want.  Stock pads and speakers that would go in the trash and a bunch of antenna and mountings for a comm system I don't use.

Having only two shell sizes doesn't help with their sizing.

It wasn't the deciding factor, but the rep making a big deal about how sealed the helmet is got me thinking about this FortNine video:
