I’m amazed at the TFT not having an engine temperature readout? I searched the TFT settings, the manual and this site. Am I missing it somewhere?
If not who at BMW thought it was better to have a couple “take a break” reminders and a couple “time riding” indicators and a few other trivial indicators and no engine temp or oil pressure gauge? Even the R9T has a rudimentary temperature display. I’d gladly trade even one of the two gas gauges for at least the oil pressure. I’d trade ALL of the take a break and time riding indicators for a temp gauge.
I don’t care how long I have been riding and I take lots of breaks anyway but I’m betting these indicators were legislated somewhere by people who have never been on a bike and have no clue that other indicators might be more important.
Ok I’ll get off my soapbox now and you can return to your regularly scheduled program.

I haven't seen an oil pressure gauge on a modern fuel injected motorcycle in a very long time.

Ok I agree the oil pressure gauge was a stretch. I was on a roll and was just ranting. But an engine temp indicator would be nice.

I agree that the two nanny reminders are useless compared to the engine temperature reading. I have never seen an oil pressure reading on a bike but that’s not to say that they didn’t exist. For me it’s more useful to have engine temperature than oil pressure, and certainly more than the other two readouts. Both my RS and Tracer have engine temperature.
Maybe others with the TFT on their bikes and the right familiarity can clarify what is there or not.

The coolant temperature is available on the my vehicle screen.

Engine coolant temp is available on TFT as well as Nav V or VI screen

I was hoping to be able to select engine temp for display on the top row of the TFT where I could glance at it occasionally while riding like you can with the gas gauge and not have to dig down into the info pages.

Unfortunately not. I guess they feel a warning light is enough, if you really need to know the details then you have to go looking.
Like you, I was hoping to have it in easy reach.

For me a warning light as an adjunct to the actual engine temperature stored somewhere else is perfectly fine. I rather have the ambient temperature on my default display, and if there was an equal choice of either one or the other (as is the case with the non-TFT RSs like mine) I choose the ambient. Same with the Tracer.
Yes, I know I can "feel" the ambient temperature but need a sensor to tell me the engine temperature, but the engine temperature changes as you ride and I prefer to keep my eyes on the road for the idiot changing lanes without warning, than reading the dash no matter how beautiful or informative. I would want the bike to tell me via a warning, though, if the engine temperature is consistently in the dangerous zone so that I can perhaps pull over for a while.
To each his own, but in this case I understand BMW's logic.

I’ve had issues in the past where I was slogging along in bumper to bumper traffic and had heat issues. One trip through Rocky Mountain National Park on a Triumph Tiger 800 it got hot enough to act like it was vapor locked and would stall out but never showed a warning light. I had to stop several times to let it cool down before it would run right again on the uphill climb. Since then I kinda like to be a little more aware of engine temp.

That's actually a great place to leave it for me too. Only thing missing is rev counter and I don't need that as I base my gear changes on feel. You probably can't set it to be the default screen after start-up.

You won't have the overheating issues with your BMW liquid cooled boxer. It's not a Triumph.
Your RS temp will be in the 184 degree F range, basically all the time.

I wish a person could pick which screen they wanted at start up but at this time it's not a option.

The bike has a thermostat to keep itself comfortable. Overheating issues with modern water-cooled R bikes is uncommon (I had no issues in Arizona in 100F+ heat). We don't need precious display real estate filled with (mostly) useless info to see that... yup, temps are still within spec. If the coolant system were to develop an issue and temps ran high, a hazard light will come on -- no matter what view mode we have the TFT in -- and warn us to investigate the issue further.
This is setup is ideal. We don't have to think about the system. If we want more info it's there but otherwise not displayed by default. If there's an issue, we're immediately alerted. The bike monitors dozens of sensors hundreds of times a second. Let it worry about itself, and then you're free to completely consume yourself with riding the damn thing.

That's my approach. All these settings for ride modes, suspension modes, this fiddly bit and that fiddly bit. They all get set on one thing and left there. Yes, I do like the ability to fine tune the bike to my preferences, but once there the settings are typically unchanged. As for all the data parameters ... couldn't care less as long as the bike is working right when I want it to and does not cause any drama.
But we're all different and different things important to others might not mean a darned thing to us. And that is a good thing too or else we'd all be left with less choice in bikes and how they are set up.

Mainly I was just amazed at the useless (to me) information that can be displayed in multiple ways while engine temp could not.
You can display fuel consumption in 2 ways, 2 Riding time indicators, 2 different break reminders and 2 indications of average speed. Other than one gas gauge I'll never use any of those. Why would I possibly care what my average speed was on a ride? "Next time out I need to see if I can add 2 mph average to that loop." Two different riding time indicators? Gee I think "I left at 8:00 and I stopped at 5:00" might be good enough. The break reminders, hmmmm, "I'm not sure I'm tired yet, my bike hasn't told me to take a break." To me these seem rather silly. One good thing about all this though is I have thoroughly learned all the details of the TFT.
So going forward I'll occasionally check the "My Vehicle" page just to get a sense of what is normal and otherwise just trust the technology to keep the bike running well as I enjoy the ride.

Points well taken. I agree with you 100% on all that information. Totally useless to me.
That said, I find that the BMW TFT display is the best in the business and the switchgear is a standard that all can be measured by ... with one flaw. They are not backlit. If they managed to do that then the switchgear too would be sublime.
